Softball Game Preview: Cyprus Pirates vs. Riverton Silverwolves

Cyprus is 0-8 against Riverton since May of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Silverwolves at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cyprus 3.8, Riverton 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Cyprus' offense. They came up short against Bountiful on Wednesday, falling 6-0. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Riverton faced Box Elder in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Silverwolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Bees. The victory was nothing new for the Silverwolves as they're now sitting on five straight.

Brooke Tacke was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Maggie Hamblin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Riverton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in eight consecutive matches.

Riverton's win bumped their record up to 18-1. As for Cyprus, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Cyprus hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Riverton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
