Baseball Recap: Harding Comes Up Short

Harding extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They lost 18-0 to the Como Park Cougars. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Knights were not able to get on the board.

Harding saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Oxley, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Como Park, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-5. The contest marked their most dominant victory of the season.

On Como Park's side, Brendan Avant was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Avant was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Como Park's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Daniel Silverio was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eli Savolainen, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Coming up, Harding will welcome St. Paul Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Como Park, they will square off against North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
