The Yulee Hornets will head out to square off against the Beachside Barracudas at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Yulee's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Beachside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Yulee took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Tocoi Creek by a score of 6-1.
Kyleigh Golden was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Golden was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Peyton Tharp was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Beachside was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They fell just short of Matanzas by a score of 3-1. The Barracudas' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Kyleigh Kendall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Beachside saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tatum Pocol, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Yulee pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Beachside, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
Everything went Yulee's way against Beachside in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Yulee made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
