Softball Preview: Jemison Panthers vs. Chilton County Tigers
Jemison is 2-8 against Chilton County since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Jemison Panthers will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Chilton County Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Jemison is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Verbena. Jemison was the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Verbena on Tuesday.
Hannah Popwell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Popwell was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Jemison got a massive performance out of Braelyn Bradford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Haley Sanchez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, everything went Chilton County's way against Pike Road on Friday as Chilton County made off with a 9-2 victory. Considering the Tigers have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Lily Benson and Makenzie Harrison did most of the damage at the plate: Benson scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Harrison scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Benson also put up a double, which washer first of the season. Avree Williams was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Chilton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pike Road only posted an OBP of .167.
