Softball Recap: Fredericksburg Christian Extends Winning Streak to Three

Fredericksburg Christian waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks with a sharp 21-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Scarlett Whittaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Haylie Johnson and Rylie Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Haylie scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Rylie scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Rylie has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Morgan Clark also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Fredericksburg Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in three consecutive games.

Fredericksburg Christian's record now sits at 9-4. As for Miller School of Albemarle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Miller School of Albemarle will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Grace Christian at 4:30 p.m. The contest will give the Mavericks their first taste of in-conference action this season. Fredericksburg Christian will be paying especially close attention to Miller School of Albemarle's matchup: after Miller School of Albemarle faces off against Temple Christian, they'll take on Fredericksburg Christian again at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th.
