Basketball Game Preview: Bayfield Trollers vs. Mercer Tigers

Bayfield is 8-2 against Mercer since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bayfield Trollers will look to defend their home court against the Mercer Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bayfield has seven straight wins, Mercer has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Bayfield was fully in charge, breezing past Butternut 100-47. The Trollers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Quintin Bresette, who posted 41 points. The contest was his 12th in a row with at least 18 points.

Meanwhile, Mercer was beaten by Mellen 87-20 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 499th, while the Granite Diggers are ranked 212th).

Bayfield's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.8 points. As for Mercer, their loss dropped their record down to 2-18.

Everything came up roses for Bayfield against Mercer in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 99-35 win. Does Bayfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mercer turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
