Basketball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty suffered their biggest loss since February 1, 2024 on Wednesday. They were dealt a 72-45 defeat at the hands of the O'Connor Eagles. The Lions were probably out for revenge after losing 60-39 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Liberty still got an impressive performance from Lilliana Welstad, who went 5 for 7 en route to 10 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Francesca Sofia, who posted 16 points.

O'Connor was led to victory by Audrey Bhesania and Savannah Helms. Bhesania dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards, while Helms went 8 of 10 on her way to 17 points and six assists. The game was Bhesania's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Ava Schooler was another key player, going 6 for 11 en route to 17 points.

Liberty's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-7. As for O'Connor, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season.

Liberty has already played their next contest, a 65-29 victory against Mountain Ridge on the 17th. As for O'Connor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-28 win against Boulder Creek on the 17th.
