Baseball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Nelson County fell victim to Parry McCluer and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Fighting Blues by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Governors have lost by just one run.

Caden Poindexter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has become a key player for Nelson County: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Nelson County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Clements, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. George Knight also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Nelson County now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Parry McCluer, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nelson County will head out to challenge Chatham at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Parry McCluer, they will venture away from home to square off against Craig County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Fighting Blues are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
