Preview: Cannon Cougars vs. Charlotte Christian Knights
Cannon is 10-0 against Charlotte Christian since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Cannon Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Charlotte Christian Knights at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Cannon is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Charlotte Christian in North Carolina (Cannon is ranked ninth, while Charlotte Christian is ranked 316th).
Cannon pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to Legacy Early College.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Madison Drayton, who scored 16 points along with two blocks. Maya Mccorkle was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Charlotte Christian suffered their biggest defeat since November 17, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a tough 51-25 loss at the hands of Providence Day. Charlotte Christian just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Despite the loss, Charlotte Christian saw an underclassman step up: Kendal Beekman dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Cannon has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Charlotte Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cannon have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Charlotte Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 18.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Cannon against Charlotte Christian in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 69-20 victory. With Cannon ahead 51-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
