Baseball Game Preview: King Philip Regional Warriors vs. Xaverian Brothers Hawks

The King Philip Regional Warriors will face off against the Xaverian Brothers Hawks on Saturday. King Philip Regional is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.

King Philip Regional is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: North Andover, who was ranked 14th at the time (King Philip Regional was ranked fifth). The Warriors beat the Scarlet Knights on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, it's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Xaverian Brothers can now relate to. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hawks have suffered since May 15, 2024.

Xaverian Brothers got a good showing from Abe Anderson, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Anderson has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Xaverian Brothers saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Lonardo, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

King Philip Regional's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Xaverian Brothers, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.
