Basketball Game Preview: Girard College Cavaliers vs. Germantown Friends

Girard College is 0-3 against Germantown Friends since December of 2022 but things could change on Saturday. The Girard College Cavaliers will head out on the road to take on Germantown Friends at 1:30 p.m.

Girard College is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. The contest between them and Academy Park didn't end well, with Girard College falling 65-47. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cavaliers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Knights are ranked 511th).

Despite their loss, Girard College saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Thierno (Teo) Souare, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. With that strong performance, Souare is now averaging an impressive 2.5 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Amadu Mansaray, who went 7 for 17 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Girard College was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Germantown Friends can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game last Friday. They had just enough and edged Roxborough out 62-59.

Girard College is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7. As for Germantown Friends, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Girard College came up short against Germantown Friends in their previous meeting back in February, falling 65-53. Can Girard College avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
