League recap: League supremacy in the balance for South, Lawndale this week

Pioneer league recap: 3/8/13

Lawndale and South are tied atop the standings of Pioneer, leaving first place open for the taking.

The Spartans outpaced the rest of the league this week, as their three total wins led the league. South beat Narbonne 11-3, Redondo Union 7-5 and St. Bernard 5-2.

The Spartans' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only seven hits and two walks, both of which led the league.

The league boasted four .400 hitters over the past week. Leading the pack was Julio Corvera, who hit 1.000 by going 3-for-3.

Caleb Valentine hit two home runs this week.



Wilem Mostert threw a shutout as he led El Segundo to victory over Bell, 2-0, on Saturday. He struck out one, allowing four hits.
