The Edgewood Bulldogs will square off against the Lone Oak Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Edgewood's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, Edgewood blew past Chisum, posting a 61-14 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bulldogs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 494th, while the Mustangs are ranked 1069th).
Edgewood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trevor Golightly, who threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Lucas Pippin was another key rusher, gaining 152 total yards and four touchdowns.
Edgewood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lone Oak, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They took down Harmony 28-14 on Friday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Buffaloes were the (much) better team in the second half.
Lone Oak's win came from a few key players Edgewood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Max Ramirez, who picked up 112 receiving yards, and also punched in one rushing score.
Lone Oak pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.2 points over those games. As for Edgewood, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Edgewood has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 244.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lone Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging 194.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Edgewood barely slipped by Lone Oak in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 14-13. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Buffaloes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
