Softball Recap: Hudson Comes Up Short

Hudson had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it five. They came up short against the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees, falling 14-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bees this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-6 two weeks ago.

Shawna Baylor made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Brecksville-Broadview Heights, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

On Brecksville-Broadview Heights' side, Rowan Weber made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Weber has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna Roth, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (three). Another player making a difference was Gianna Dasenbrook, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Hudson will take on Orange at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Explorers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Brecksville-Broadview Heights, they will square off against Solon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bees are facing the Comets at the right time seeing as the Comets are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
