Baseball Recap: Kankakee Valley Victorious

Kankakee Valley won the last time they faced North Newton and things went their way on Friday too. The Kougars walked away with a 6-2 win over the Spartans.

Elliott Patton looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Kankakee Valley let Tyler Smolek and GrayLee Weaver run wild. Smolek went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Weaver went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Weaver a new career-high.

Kankakee Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Kankakee Valley back to even at 6-6-1. As for North Newton, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Kankakee Valley will host Tri-Township at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Kougars are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for North Newton, they will face off against Calumet Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
