Baseball Game Preview: Graves County Eagles vs. Caldwell County Tigers

The Graves County Eagles will take on the Caldwell County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Graves County earned a 9-4 victory over Marshall County. The Eagles have beaten the Marshals the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Marshals has come to flipping the script.

Meanwhile, Caldwell County entered their tilt with Madisonville-North Hopkins on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Maroons 5-3.

Mitchell Phelps looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Westin King was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Parker, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Caldwell County's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Graves County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Graves County beat Caldwell County 5-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
