Baseball Recap: Atlantic Takes Down Plantation in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Atlantic rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Plantation Colonels with a sharp 19-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Landon Thompson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Atlantic is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Thompson was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Darrion Darby was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Atlantic: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Jordan Reich was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Atlantic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .512 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Atlantic's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Plantation, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
