Basketball Game Preview: Williams Bulldogs vs. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans

The Williams Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Williams will face Southern School of Energy and Sustainability after dropping another heartbreaker against Eastern Alamance on Tuesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 3.1 of beating them. Williams came up short against Eastern Alamance, falling 80-59. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th, while the Eagles are ranked 154th).

Williams' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Colby Elliot, who posted 16 points, and Jaeden Smith, who put up 12 points. Elliot's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points.

Meanwhile, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.6 points) and they went ahead and made it 17 on Saturday. They breezed past the Vikings to the tune of 78-36. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-14.

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their 28th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.1 points over those games. As for Williams, their loss dropped their record down to 11-15.

Williams took a serious blow against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, falling 69-40. Can Williams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
