Basketball Game Preview: Shepaug Valley Spartans vs. Thomaston Bears

Shepaug Valley has gone 9-1 against Thomaston recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Shepaug Valley Spartans will challenge the Thomaston Bears at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Shepaug Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Tuesday, Shepaug Valley was fully in charge, breezing past Whitney RVT 89-26. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 27 points or more this season.

Reed Woerner was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 39 points and 15 rebounds. His evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Drew Konik, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 assists.

Shepaug Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Thomaston, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They really took it to Windsor Locks for the full four quarters, racking up an 80-51 victory. The Bears pushed the score to 66-42 by the end of the third, a deficit the Raiders had little chance of recovering from.

Shepaug Valley pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.1 points. As for Thomaston, their record is now 5-2.

Shepaug Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Thomaston in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 71-65 victory.
