Baseball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Eastlake Titans

The Patrick Henry Patriots will face off against the Eastlake Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Patrick Henry's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Eastlake's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Patrick Henry fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Helix on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlanders.

Jimmy Gunn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Patrick Henry saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Cappelletti, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits Cappelletti has posted since back in May of 2024. Alex Mestman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Eastlake unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Point Loma by a score of 4-3.

Eastlake also got a good showing from Max Tello, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Angel Laya made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Patrick Henry's record is now 5-2. As for Eastlake, their record now sits at 4-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Patrick Henry has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eastlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts.
