Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Markham Mustangs vs. Canastota

The Mt. Markham Mustangs will face off against Canastota at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Markham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Mt. Markham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Westmoreland by a score of 10-5 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Sergio Ryan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Plows, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Mt. Markham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Adirondack hit Canastota with a six-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Canastota fell 8-4 to Adirondack. Canastota has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Blake Howard made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was JT Kurak, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Canastota's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mt. Markham, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Mt. Markham got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Canastota by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will Canastota turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
