League recap: No. 1 Brighton defeats No. 2 Prairie View to stay on top

5A/4A Eastern Metro league recap: 5/7/12

In the ongoing battle for first place, Brighton beat Prairie View this week, 7-6 on May 8, 2013. Brighton is now in first place at 11-0 in 5A/4A Eastern Metro and 17-2 overall.

The league's longest active winning streak belongs to the Bulldogs (17-2, 11-0), undefeated over their last 15 games. In the past week, Brighton won another 2 games, includinga 7-6 victory over Prairie View and a 15-2 win over Thornton. Jason Adkins's hot bat led the team this week, as he racked up three hits and four RBIs.

Gateway's pitching staff dominated this week, allowing only two hits and three walks, both of which led the league. The Olympians have given up a mere 121 hits on the year in addition to compiling 103 strikeouts. Marshall Hesse is the leader in that category with 48 Ks on the season.

Prairie View's Joe Lubick led the league with six hits this week. He is twenty-second in the league with 19 hits this year, and has a .442 batting average.

Branden Muniz garnered four hits in four at bats during Gateway's 10-0 victory over Hinkley on May 1, 2012.
