Flag Football Recap: Merced Beats Whitney for Their Third Straight Win

With a playoff win on the line, Merced rose to the challenge on Monday. They strolled past the Whitney Wildcats with points to spare, taking the game 34-19. The win was familiar territory for the Bears, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Despite the defeat, Whitney saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lulu Im threw for 197 yards and three TDs while completing 71.4% of her passes, and also rushed for 37 yards. Im has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times she's played.

Merced's victory bumped their record up to 23-4. As for Whitney, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-7.

Coming up, Merced will take on Atwater at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Bears 11.7, the Falcons 12.7) so any points scored will be well earned. Whitney does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
