Basketball Recap: Zach Keaton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fremont over Buena Vista

Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Buena Vista Bison. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bison apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zach Keaton, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 15 points and three steals. That's the most steals Keaton has posted since back in December of 2023. Aiden Vacha was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven boards.

Buena Vista had a senior duo take command as LC Doss went 5-for-11 en route to 19 points and four steals and Brandon Jarmon went 7-for-16 on his way to 18 points. Doss is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ater Lual, who had four points and seven rebounds.

Fremont's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Buena Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fremont will venture away from home to square off against Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fremont is facing Columbus at the right time seeing as Columbus is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Buena Vista, they are taking a road trip to challenge Omaha Westside at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Omaha Westside knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Buena Vista likes a good challenge.
