Softball Recap: Newbury Park Comes Up Short

Newbury Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 9-3 to the Thousand Oaks Lancers. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to the Lancers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Veronica Wasserman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Newbury Park saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hanna Porter, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Porter's first of the season.

Newbury Park's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Thousand Oaks, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Newbury Park will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Calabasas at 3:30 p.m. Calabasas has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.83 runs per game on average), something Newbury Park will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Thousand Oaks, they will be taking part in a tournament against Oxnard at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
