Howell and Lakeland are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Highlanders will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Howell made easy work of Franklin and carried off a 16-6 victory. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.

Howell let Zoey Overton and Addison Caldwell run wild. Overton went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Caldwell went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Overton has posted over her last 11 games. Leighton Scott was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.
Howell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Lakeland entered their tilt with South Lyon East on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 13-12 W against the Cougars.
Izzy Bedini and Emily Searle did most of the damage at the plate: Bedini went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Searle went 2-for-4 with five RBI and one triple. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Goldman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Howell is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 24-13-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeland, they pushed their record up to 23-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Lakeland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Howell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Lakeland, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Howell's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
