Softball Recap: Pacifica Takes Down Ranked Canyon

Pacifica faced Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mariners sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Comanches. Four seems to be a good number for the Mariners as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Raquel Pineda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mattea Stern was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Natalia Amezquita, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Pacifica hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Pacifica is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Pacifica wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-2 victory against Orange Lutheran on the 6th. As for Canyon, they have also already played their next game, a 12-2 win against Saugus on the 7th.
