Basketball Recap: Monacan Chiefs vs. Cosby Titans
The Monacan Chiefs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 65-53 to Cosby. Monacan was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Monacan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Samuel Sims, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Sims has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tai Bowler, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Monacan dropped their record down to 9-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Cosby, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Monacan will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Lancers at 7:15 p.m. Manchester presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Chiefs in Virginia (the Lancers are ranked 22nd, while the Chiefs are ranked 141st). As for Cosby, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
