Football Game Preview: Southwestern Trojans vs. Salamanca Warriors

Southwestern and Salamanca are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Trojans will challenge the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southwestern will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Southwestern's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-0 victory over Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton. Fans of the Trojans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southwestern to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trent Lewis, who rushed for 141 yards and three scores while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 158 yards and one touchdown while completing 91.7% of his passes. Lewis showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 61 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Bradyn Fuller, who rushed for 201 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Southwestern proved: they limited Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Brayden Potter for the heroic effort on defense: he. Southwestern didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.1.

Southwestern's defense didn't let Brayden Gibbs, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Zach Markham with two. Markham is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Salamanca wound up with the same score they had in their last game (28-8), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The game marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Southwestern's record now sits at 5-0. As for Salamanca, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Southwestern might still be hurting after the 27-3 loss they got from Salamanca in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
