Basketball Recap: Wilmington Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nikki Quigley and Sami Liaromatis

Wilmington was the 42-38 winner over Coal City when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Wilmington Wildcats received a blow on Thursday as they fell 40-24 to the Coal City Coalers.

Sami Liaromatis and Nikki Quigley certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Liaromatis went 5 of 12 on her way to 14 points, while Quigley posted four points. Liaromatis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played.

Wilmington's loss dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Coal City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wilmington Wildcats challenge the Lisle Lions at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Coal City, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-34 defeat against Marquette on the 1st.
