Calhoun County takes loss despite strong efforts from Cassidy Pough and Takara Brown

Recap: Calhoun County Saints vs. Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans

The Calhoun County Saints were the 54-45 winner over the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Calhoun County took a 58-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ridge Spring-Monetta on Tuesday.

Calhoun County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Takara Brown, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Cassidy Pough who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Brown hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Andrade, who scored seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ridge Spring-Monetta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taylah Leaphart, who scored 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Leaphart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Kennedy Ligons was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Calhoun County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-16.

Calhoun County is on the road again on Thursday and plays Williston-Elko at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Calhoun County is facing Williston-Elko at the right time seeing as Williston-Elko is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ridge Spring-Monetta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Hunter-Kinard-Tyler is ranked 117th).
