Soccer Game Preview: Newberry vs. Swansea

The Newberry Bulldogs will square off against the Swansea Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Newberry gave up the first goal last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Newberry who was credited with the victory. Newberry got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to Mid-Carolina's one.

Swansea will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Silver Bluff on Friday. Swansea blew past Silver Bluff 10-1. Ana Castro was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Swansea's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Chapel-Anne Farris got a bit more time on the pitch (35 vs. her season average of 17). Farris made the most of the opportunity, scoring two goals and one assist A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Newberry is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those eight games. Swansea's victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
