Basketball Recap: Kailey Patzel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newman Grove/St. Edward over Palmer

Newman Grove/St. Edward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 43-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Palmer Tigers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-34 last Thursday.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kailey Patzel, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Patzel is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Allyx Forre, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Newman Grove/St. Edward was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Palmer, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.

Newman Grove/St. Edward didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-44 victory against Elba on the 31st. As for Palmer, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 40-35 loss against Twin Loup on the 31st.
