Two dominant signal callers in Asa Myers and Phillips Blair are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Jonesboro Hurricane will welcome the Catholic Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Jonesboro is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Sheridan on Friday. The Hurricane managed a 48-42 win over the Yellowjackets. The Hurricane haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Tj Brown had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 113 yards and three TDs, while also catching one score.

Jonesboro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Clarence Mucherson, Jaylen Alexander, and Corien Bullard picked up one apiece. With that strong performance, Alexander is now averaging an impressive 1.2 defended passes per game. Jonesboro got some further help from Kenneth Douglas: he made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended two passes.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Catholic). They enjoyed a cozy 44-28 win over West Memphis on Friday. The Rockets pushed the score to 44-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Blue Devils cut but never quite recovered from.

Jonesboro better keep an eye on Hunter Markham. He was instrumental in Catholic's win, picking up 55 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 79 yards on only nine carries. Markham's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.

Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

One reason for the win was Catholic's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. Leading the way was Sawyer Bagby with two.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Catholic, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Jonesboro has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 190.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 166 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Jonesboro came up short against Catholic in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 26-21. Thankfully for the Hurricane, Jackson England (who rushed for 139 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
