Basketball Game Preview: Lake City Community 14ers vs. Creede Miners

The Lake City Community 14ers are taking a road trip to face off against the Creede Miners at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lake City Community has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Creede will arrive with six straight victories.

Lake City Community is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Centennial on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Lake City Community was outmatched by Centennial and fell 63-15. The 14ers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-4.

Meanwhile, Creede hadn't done well against Centennial recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Creede snuck past Centennial with a 42-38 win. The score was all tied up 19-19 at the break, but the Miners were the better team in the second half.

Creede's win came from a few key players Lake City Community will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Angel Edmonds, who posted five points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmin Laing, who scored 15 points and six steals.

Creede's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.7 points over those games. As for Lake City Community, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Lake City Community was dealt a bruising 48-21 defeat at the hands of Creede when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Lake City Community avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
