The Leyden Eagles will face off against the York Dukes at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Leyden is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
On Tuesday, Leyden beat DePaul College Prep 7-2.

Abigail Cortez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arianna Gallo, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Gianna Olan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while York put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Berwyn/Cicero Morton. York put the hurt on Berwyn/Cicero Morton with a sharp 14-0 victory. The Dukes not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024.
Taylor McMillen tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Emily McNichols and Lillianah (Lilly) Burda did most of the damage at the plate: McNichols scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Burda scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Myka Matykiewicz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
York was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berwyn/Cicero Morton only posted a batting average of .176.
York now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Leyden, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Leyden was able to grind out a solid victory over York in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, winning 6-3. Will Leyden repeat their success, or does York has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
