Softball Recap: Sarasota Wins Going Away Against Palmetto

Sarasota lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Palmetto, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's contest. The Sarasota Sailors blew past the Palmetto Tigers 21-3 on Saturday. The Sailors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

Gemma Mulhollen looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sarasota got a massive performance out of Ashlan Guengerich, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Guengerich a new career-high in runs. Mady Pint was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Sarasota hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Sarasota is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Palmetto now has a losing record of 3-4.

Sarasota has already played their next contest, a 12-0 victory against East Bay on the 8th. As for Palmetto, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 1-0 win against Steinbrenner on the 8th.
