Softball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. Laney Buccaneers

Ashley is 2-8 against Laney since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Screaming Eagle will look to defend their home field against the Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, Ashley came up short against East Columbus and fell 9-4.

Vayda LeQuire was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Laney came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buccaneers have posted since April 19, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Layla Carr, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Laney's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-15.
