Softball Recap: Williamson Takes a Loss

Williamson had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it eight. They lost 20-8 to the Lyons Lions. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Olivia Bearce made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run. Jessica Shanley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

As for Lyons, their record now sits at 10-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

On Lyons' side, Keira Weber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Weber was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Lyons got a massive performance out of Addison VanLare, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. Those five runs gave VanLare a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Baylei Reed, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI.

Looking ahead, Williamson will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Sodus at 4:45 p.m. As for Lyons, they will venture away from home to square off against Palmyra-Macedon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Red Raiders have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
