Mount Carmel has gone 9-1 against Danville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The RED TORNADOES will face off against the Ironmen at 4:30 p.m. Mount Carmel knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Danville likes a good challenge.
Mount Carmel barely beat Milton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The RED TORNADOES put the hurt on the Black Panthers with a sharp 11-1 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the RED TORNADOES, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Mount Carmel got a great performance from Jace Stever as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Stever has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jon Morgante was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Klokis, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Mount Carmel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milton only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Danville waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ironmen have posted against the Mustangs since May 25, 2022.
Danville let Lincoln Diehl and Matthew Acor run wild. Diehl went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Acor went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Cole Duffy was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Danville pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Carmel, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season.
Mount Carmel's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The RED TORNADOES have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Danville, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mount Carmel continue to outrun the ball?
Mount Carmel skirted past Danville 2-0 in their previous meeting on April 9th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the RED TORNADOES since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
