Basketball Game Preview: Hanahan Hawks vs. Battery Creek Dolphins

The Hanahan Hawks will challenge the Battery Creek Dolphins at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Hanahan and three for Battery Creek.

On Tuesday, Hanahan lost to North Charleston at home by a 53-37 margin. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Cougars are ranked 65th).

Hanahan's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Dru Goldsmith, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine steals, and Justin Maduro, who posted six points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Maduro a new career-high in assists (three).

Meanwhile, Battery Creek played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Orangeburg-Wilkinson, falling 65-40.

Battery Creek's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Hanahan, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

Hanahan came up short against Battery Creek in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 51-39. Can Hanahan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
