Hoover stops No. 14 McGill-Toolen's 22-game win streak

The nation's 14th-ranked team was grounded to a stop on Wednesday night.

Hoover (Ala.) won its 12th state title and fourth in five years by holding No. 14 McGill-Toolen (Mobile, Ala.) to minus-43 yards rushing in a 17-7 Class 7A championship win.

The victory halted McGill-Toolen's 22-game win streak.

According to the Associated Press, C.J. Sturdivant rushed 16 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns, which was more than enough for the Bucs (12-2), who also recorded eight sacks on defense.



Bubba Thompson threw for 280 yards and a touchdown for McGill-Toolen (13-1), which was looking for a state championship repeat.
