Basketball Recap: Monroe Area Comes Up Short

Monroe Area was the 72-57 winner over Cherokee Bluff when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes fell 65-53 to the Cherokee Bluff Bears on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Purple Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while the Bears are ranked seventh).

This is the second loss in a row for Monroe Area and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for Cherokee Bluff, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Area won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Johnson at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cherokee Bluff, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
