Baseball Recap: Smithtown Christian Wins Going Away Against Southold

Smithtown Christian hadn't done well against Southold recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Knights were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Settlers. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.

Vaughn Beresford made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.

In other batting news, Smithtown Christian got a massive performance out of Erick Aristy, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Aristy is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Gibbs, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Smithtown Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southold, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Smithtown Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Settlers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
