Softball Recap: Captain Shreve Gets the Win

Captain Shreve's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Parkway Panthers, sneaking past 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gators have posted since March 18, 2024.

Ella Hendrick was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Hendrick was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

In other batting news, Captain Shreve let Aubry Townsend and Meagan Hill run wild. Townsend went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Hill went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Hill a new career-high. Kennedi Dixon was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Captain Shreve lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Captain Shreve's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 13-10. As for Parkway, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Captain Shreve will face off against Florien at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Captain Shreve has lost four straight at home , while Florien has lost four on the road. As for Parkway, they will square off against Haughton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkway's pitchers better be ready for this one: Haughton has averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
