Baseball Game Preview: Holy Cross Tigers vs. Edna Karr Cougars

For the second straight game, Holy Cross will face off against Edna Karr. The Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Holy Cross has three straight wins, Edna Karr has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Holy Cross is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Edna Karr a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Tigers have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Matthew Watson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carter Spencer was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hayden Derbes, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Holy Cross kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Edna Karr's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Holy Cross, their record now sits at 24-4.
