Even though Carver High School of Engineering & Science have not done well against the Simon Gratz Bulldogs recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Carver High School of Engineering & Science rang in the new year with a 63-55 victory over Simon Gratz. Given Carver High School of Engineering & Science's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Simon Gratz is ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carver High School of Engineering & Science found their leader in underclassman Fareed Brown, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 3 assists. The game was Brown's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Samir Roberts-mouzon, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Simon Gratz still got an impressive performance from Jabrelle Dennison, who scored 22 points. The matchup was Dennison's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Sihaaj Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Carver High School of Engineering & Science's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Simon Gratz, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carver High School of Engineering & Science will challenge Boys' Latin Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Boys' Latin Charter is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Simon Gratz, they will head out on the road to face off against Germantown Friends at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
