Volleyball Recap: Rocky Mountain Prep SMART Comes Up Short

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART was the 3-2 winner over Denver West when they last played one another back in September of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Ocelotls took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cowboys on Friday.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Denver West work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-0.

Despite the loss, Rocky Mountain Prep SMART still got an impressive performance from April Vences, who had 12 kills and eight aces. Vences is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served three or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alessandra Irazoque, who had 11 kills and two aces.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Denver West, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against DMLK on the 28th. As for Denver West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against Montbello on the 28th.
