Basketball Game Preview: De Beque Dragons vs. Vail Christian Saints

De Beque and Vail Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The De Beque Dragons will be playing at home against the Vail Christian Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Vail Christian is facing De Beque at the wrong time: De Beque suffered their first home loss of the season on Tuesday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell 47-38 to the Cowboys.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Avery Rigsby, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. She is becoming a predictor of De Beque's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 12-3 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Allyson Sandidge, who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, De Beque smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vail Christian). They walked away with a 53-45 win over North Park on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Saints as they're now sitting on three straight.

De Beque's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Vail Christian, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-9.

De Beque strolled past Vail Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 44-29. Does De Beque have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vail Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
