Softball Game Preview: College Station Cougars vs. Hargrave Falcons

The College Station Cougars will challenge the Hargrave Falcons at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as College Station comes in on six and Hargrave on three.

If College Station beats Hargrave with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. College Station beat Clear Springs on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-5.

Gracie Ream spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shaenyn Yates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Ambar Aguilar also deserves some recognition as she stolen her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Hargrave got themselves on the board against Brenham on Saturday, but Brenham never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Cubs as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kylen Padgett made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only a hit over seven innings pitched. Padgett was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kaci Gobert and Brooklyn Gottselig did most of the damage at the plate: Gobert got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI, while Gottselig scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

College Station's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.7 runs. As for Hargrave, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
